We are not sure why, but it seems that Germans have this unexplainable love for gummy bears. They seem to gravitate towards the Haribo-rack wherever we go! German parents, can you explain this, please? :)
HARIBO is one of Germany’s basic food ;-) and stands for Hans Riegel (name of the founder) from Bonn (his birth town). Gummy bears were invented 1922 and every day worldwide more than 100 million are made! If you want to see how they are made check out http://www.haribo.com/planet/uk/info/frameset_verbraucherinfo.php
All German children grow up with sweets from Haribo so it is an important part of the German soul and wherever a German travels around the world Haribo stands and tastes for their home country. But be aware where you are in Germany. The northern you are the more licorice is in the bag. If you are hungry don’t have a look on http://www2.haribo.com/fileadmin/upload/Germany/Zahlen_Fakten/HARIBO_info_en.pdf
Best wishes for your further camp time from Barbara and Hans-Peter (Jan’s mum and dad)
Dear Barbara and Hans-Peter, thank you for clarifying! :) It all makes sense to us now. We don't blame you guys, we also love the gummy bears, they are so tasty! The Staff's personal favorite is of course the licorice! Mmm... delicious!

By the way Germans consume around 2,9 kg (6,4 lb) per head/per year.
