Bashful

We found little Bashful! He's very shy, and insecure, how do we make him feel comfortable so he will help us and give us the clue we need? What makes us feel comfortable when we meet new people and feel a little nervous and shy? Maybe we have to tell him our names and that we want to be his friend?

Grumpy

We've found Grumpy!! But he is refusing to help us! How can we make him happy so that he will help us? What makes us happy when we are grumpy? A hug? Someone showing us sympathy?

Activity snap shot

Right now we're all gathered for activity, it's snow white's wedding, but snow white is missing! Oh no! All the fairy tale characters are here: Aladdin, Pocahontas, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Little Red Riding Hood, The Beast, Esmeralda, Thiana and the prince! But where are the seven dwarfs? We have to go and look for them, maybe they can lead us to Snow White!

Lake Fake

Right next to our camp site here at Sunny Hill, there's a fake lake, which we have named Lake Fake. It is a perfect place for hot summer days, and both today and yesterday we went there during some of the activities.
We got to swim in the "lake", and it was a lot of fun!
We also had fun on land:

We hope we will have more sunny days to come, so that we can enjoy the nice weather at Lake Fake.

The Jordanians!

Here is the Jordanian delegation, finally! This picture was taken yesterday, when everyone went to Lake Fake (a fake lake next to the camp site) to go swimming in the sunny weather. More pictures will come soon!

Food at camp

So, what are the kids eating at camp? What is the Norwegian food like? It is no secret that Norwegians eat more bread than any of the international campers thought possible, but is bread all we eat? Of course not!

We have put together a menu full of nutritious food, with vegetables and meat and fish and alternatives for the vegetarians. Morten, one of the staff members, is in charge of the kitchen. Here he is in action, slicing cheese:
We have been very lucky this time around, to have local CISVers volunteering in the kitchen for the full four weeks of camp! They are doing a tremendous job, waking up early every morning to prepare breakfast, and going to bed late at night after leaving the kitchen in a spotless condition.  Here is a picture from yesterday, when they prepared the first fish dinner so far:

We are happy to report that the children LOVED the meal: fish au gratin a la Sunny Hill!

Open Day

Our Open Day is Friday, July 13th, only one week from today! We have invited everyone from our chapter as well as the locals here in Sør-Odal, and the delegations will prepare a little show for them. Each delegation will also prepare a little stand where they get to present their country. We are super excited about it, and we will of course post pictures on the blog after the event!

Summer at SunnyHill

The summer has finally come to sunny hill, with hot weather and sunny evenings. Chances are it wont last for long, but we're not worried; if the bad weather comes we will be singing in the rain!

Right now the kids are asleep, but it is still light outside. Good night from all of us to all of you!

USA's National Night

Yesterday, on July 4th, the American delegation had their National Night - the first ever National Night at Sunny Hill! They treated us to some delicious s'mores, which we cooked over the bbq outside, and they showed us some real Hawaiian hula-hula! Everyone got to learn the moves, and we had a lot of fun! Thank you so much for a wonderful evening!

Here are some short clips from the event. Enjoy!

Lullabies

Every night before bed time here at Sunny Hill, we all gather in the Lullabies Room to tune out and have a little sing-along. Our Lullabies Room is situated in the girls' dorms, and when we are all together, we can barely fit in there - so it's time to get cozy! We sing songs about peace, love, friendship and a yellow submarine, and by the end of the session, we sing good night to each delegation/JC in their language:

It's time to say good night,
the stars are shining bright!
Tomorrow we'll meet our friends again,
so let's say good night 'till then.

There goes our friends from Norway,
we hope that they'll sleep well!
We all say: god natt! to them,
and tomorrow we'll meet again!
