Open Day Performances #3 - Italy

The Italian delegation performed their national anthem on stage on Open Day:

And they had also rehearsed a dance, and encouraged everyone to join in! It was great fun!

Open Day Performances #1 - Canada

All the Open Day performances have been captured on video, and we will upload them onto the blog as soon as we can! 

Here is the Canadian delegation, singing Canada's Really Big (see below for the lyrics):

Canada's really big!

Canada's National Night

The Canadian delegation served pancakes for lunch on their National Night, and it was delicious! They had also made a video which they showed in the media room, and they performed a really funny song, Canada's Really Big by the Arrogant Worms. After the performance, there was a quiz where those who had paid attention to the song and the video won prices for each question they managed to answer. The Canadians had "commercial breaks" between the questions, where they showed us some traditional dancing, some hockey playing and some lumbering. They were really generous with their candy, and we had a lot of fun answering all the questions!

Italy's National Night

The Italians dressed up as CISV-chefs on their National Night, and served delicious bruschetta for lunch! Click on the link of the picture below for a recipe we've found online:

For their National Night show, they sang the Italian National Anthem, and we got to play a really fun game! Enjoy the short clips below!

Norway's National Night

Last week, the Norwegian delegation had their National Night! They showed us how they celebrate Norway's Constitution Day: 17. mai (May 17th), and they had prepared some games for us which Norwegian kids usually play at birthday parties. They also taught us the Norwegian energizer called "Hysj! Ka Sa Ho?!", and here are a couple of video clips from the event:

Germany's National Night

The German delegation had prepared a play for us, and they performed it on their National Night last week. It was really good! Above is a short clip from the performance, enjoy!

Half Time Entertainers @ Gjemselund Stadium

When the kids arrived from the home stays, we had prepared a surprise for them. The whole camp was going to participate as Half Time Entertainers at a football game!

 We gathered at Gjemselund Stadium in Kongsvinger to cheer for the local team: KIL, wearing the team's colors red and white for the occation.

 KIL is Morten's (from the Staff) football team, and he goes to all their matches throughout the year, even when they play waaay up north above the polar sircle! It was Morten's doing that we all got to go to the game yesterday. Thank you, Morten!

The stadium is perhaps a little smaller than the stadiums some of the kids are used to from their home countries, but football is football nontheless :) If you want to read about Gjemselund Stadium, press this Wikipedia link.



We had prepared some energizers and dances for the Half Time Entertainment, and went out onto the field during half time to party it up and generate some good football atmosphere. The audience loved it, and we had a lot of fun!

The Sunny Hill River Village Staff Team

We are proud to present to you the first group pictures taken of the Sunny Hill River Village Staff Team! We are a busy bunch, and we're seldom gathered for long enough during the day to have our picture taken (we have our staff meetings at night), so we took the opportunity on Open Day!

 We are four lucky staffies, to be staffing this wonderful village! The delegations have been very generous and brought gifts for us from their home countries, and some of the delegations chose to hand their gifts to us on stage on Open Day:
